I received this history in the mail by one of the soldiers who fought with the 975 Field Artillery Battalion
by his niece. Unfortunitly I have lost both their names. I scanned the history just as recieved it, except I added page 10 with a picture of James Tynes and the gun that he was an radio operator on. James,s death is on page 5 paragraph 7.

My grandfather actually wrote the piece of history and drew it. I have the original copy. He was in the 975th field battalion. Sgt. anthony joseph Wiegand. Im his grandson and I was curious to find out more about his life in the war and this came up
ReplyDeleteWow, I have the same thing, also original. I have a three-ring binder with this same piece of art, also done by hand. Mine is done in green ink and is more finished than the one pictured here, but it's clearly the same hand. Mine has a detailed history of the unit, an overview as well, and has a lot of photographs. There are photos of the unit in training, on the Atlantic, in Germany. There are also captured photographs from Germans. I bought it off of eBay years ago from the daughter of the original owner, for next to nothing. She seemed pretty disinterested in keeping it, or even knowing much of anything new about it.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this. My grandfather's younger brother was James Saunders Jr. called Junior by friends and family. All of his siblings have now passed away.
ReplyDeleteI have this from my grandfather. It is complete with statistics of the battalion. I believe he had each member hand sign their names and addresses in the back. Would love to upload or find anyone with more information.
ReplyDeleteMy grandfather was part of the 975th FA Battalion too. I am currently reading the letters he sent home to his father and he mentioned this. He said he was sending a copy home to his father but we don't know what happened to it. My family would love a copy if you wouldn't mind sharing.
DeleteI would love to share what little info I have on one of the group, Edward Saunders Jr. He was my grandfather's youngest brother. I have two pictures of him with another much shorter man in uniform from the time I would like to identify (Junior was 6'4 so just about everyone was much shorter!) https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/69613585/person/230101510860/gallery
